Activities

We want to provide dance and music activity that celebrates the local culture and tradition of our multi-cultural community and gives opportunities for local disadvantaged young people the chance to get involved, have some fun and make new friends, as well as learning new skills.

We plan to run weekly workshops over 6 months culminating in at least 2 Performance /Celebration Events in the school holidays (Easter & Summer). We will recruit local artists to work with our volunteers to run the workshops for youngsters aged from 8 – 21 years.

We will provide 4 x 2 hr. sessions each week. Classes will be limited to 8 youngsters per age range per session. There will be 2 music and 2 dance sessions each week. We will split each session into different age ranges. Under 13’s and 14+.

Our committee members and current service users will spread the message to family and friends. We have a growing online presence developing through our Facebook page where we can advertise. We will produce posters to display in community venues like library, Health Centre, School, Local shops, Mosques, Churches. We will also speak to lots of people to encourage interest and participation.

We won’t charge for sessions so that we minimize exclusion for financial reasons. We will also talk to Social Services, schools, Health services in case they are aware of families / children who might be interested.

We have run similar activities previously but recognize the need for qualified tutors. For the future, we hope that youngsters who participate will form a committee and drive future activity and we believe a handful are interested in gaining skills to teach and support siblings and friends in future.
